Facts about Bexley, OH
Located in Franklin County, Bexley is considered a suburb of Columbus. With more than 13,00 residents, the city has a history stretching back into the 19th century, although it would be 1908 before it was incorporated as a village.
Bexley came into being through the merger of two local communities: Pleasant Ridge and Bullit Park. The presence of Fort Bushnell in 1898 laid the groundwork for sewage and city services that would later serve the new village. After the fort closure, talks about merging the two communities got underway, with the incorporation taking place in 1908.
By 1929, Bexley had met the requirements under Ohio laws to become a city. That took place in 1932. The new city continued to experience steady growth for the next several decades.
Bexley received a special honor in 2013, when the city was accredited as an arboretum by the Morton Register of Arboreta. This made Bexley the first city in the United States to achieve this status.
