Facts about Dublin, OH
With a population of more than 41,000, Dublin’s city limits extends into Franklin, Union, and Delaware counties. While settlement in the area can be traced back to the 1795 Treaty of Greenville, it would be 1810 before the area was platted with the intention of forming a community. One of the developers, John Shields, chose to name the community after his home city, Dublin Ireland.
Growth was slow, with Dublin having several mills and a single general store by the early 1830s. It would be 1881 before Dublin was officially incorporated as a village.
As recently as 1970, Dublin remained a small town. In the following years, the construction of Interstate 270 and the establishment of several corporate headquarters encouraged more people to move to the area. By 1987, Dublin has gained a sufficient amount of population to be incorporated as a city.
Today, Dublin is home to just under a thousand acres of parkland. It’s known for an abundance of outdoor sculptures as well as a number of golf clubs and municipal celebrations of several major holidays. Dublin was named the 6th best place to live in the United States in 2017. In 2020, it was named the 12th best small city in the nation.
