Facts about Reynoldsburg, OH
Found along the border of Franklin and Licking counties, Reynoldsburg is home to just under 36,000 residents. Considered a suburb of Columbus, the city has served as the headquarters for a number of retail corporations. Originally known as French Town, the city was first platted in 1831 by John French.
A post office was established in the community in 1833, and was designated at the Reynoldsburg station. Incorporation as a village followed in 1839 under the original name. Over time, the post office name became more widely associated with the village and came into common use. In 1893, the name was officially changed to Reynoldsburg, in honor of John C. Reynolds.
The city is sometimes known as the birthplace of the tomato, with claims that the first commercial variety was developed here in the early 19th century In honor of that heritage, Reynoldsburg is home to an annual Tomato Festival. Taking place in August, the Festival has elected a queen every year since the event’s inception in 1965.
